EC to carry out SIR in Andhra with July 1 as qualifying date

The EC on Monday said it will carry out SIR of the electoral roll of over four crore electors in Andhra Pradesh with July 1, 2026 as the qualifying date.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the state, Vivek Yadav, said 46,397 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will go house-to-house to reach 4.16 crore electors, assisted by 68,868 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties during the enumeration phase.
''The Election Commission of India has decided to carry out Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, 2026 with reference to July 1, 2026 as the qualifying date and fixed the following schedule for taking up the SIR, 2026 in Andhra Pradesh,'' Yadav said in a press release.
According to the EC, preparation, training and printing for the exercise are scheduled from June 6 to June 14, house-to-house visits by BLOs (June 15 to July 14) and rationalisation of polling stations by July 14.
Yadav said publication of draft electoral rolls will be completed by July 21, period for filing claims and objections (July 21 to August 20), notice phase/disposal of claims and objections (July 21 to September 18) and the publication of the final electoral roll (September 22).
The CEO observed that SIR is a participatory exercise involving all stakeholders, including electors, political parties and election officials.
Yadav requested all political parties to appoint BLAs for each polling booth to ensure full participation so that the SIR is conducted with complete transparency.
