During 'Mahanadu', the annual gathering of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Nara Lokesh, the party's working president and Andhra Pradesh Information Technology minister, put forward an ambitious plan to reserve one-third of the election seats for women in 2029. He emphasized that this commitment should stand independent of Parliament's future decisions.

Lokesh strongly articulated the necessity for increased female representation in governance, coining the initiative as a commitment to India's future that TDP must spearhead. He accused the opposition, particularly Congress, of hindering progress on women's reservation legislation, while asserting that next year promises to showcase women's leadership significantly.

Highlighting TDP's longstanding dedication to women empowerment, Lokesh insisted on transforming women from beneficiaries to key decision-makers in politics. He reiterated a clear vision for the future, contrasting it with other parties who he claims only remember women's empowerment during elections.

The minister noted that Andhra Pradesh state Assembly elections will coincide with the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, marking a critical juncture for implementing this policy.
