Israel's Airstrike in Gaza Kills New Hamas Military Leader

Israel announced the elimination of Mohammed Odeh, the new head of Hamas' military division, in airstrikes on Gaza City. The action follows Odeh's predecessor's demise less than two weeks before. The strike took place ahead of Eid al-Adha, killing at least three people and unsettling the festive spirit.

In a critical move, Israel confirmed it eliminated Mohammed Odeh, the newly appointed leader of Hamas' military wing, during targeted airstrikes in Gaza City. This marks the second leader loss for Hamas in under two weeks, heightening tensions in the region.

Family members corroborate Odeh's death, yet Hamas remains silent on his role. The airstrikes, which resulted in three fatalities and injured twelve on Tuesday, came just as Gaza prepared for the Eid al-Adha celebrations. Instead of celebration, many in Gaza are now displaced, enduring harsh conditions with aid as their main lifeline.

Israel Katz, the Defence Minister, labeled Odeh a mastermind behind the attacks of October 7, 2023, which sparked ongoing conflict. Katz declared Israel's unyielding resolve to eradicate those responsible for what he described as the 'massacre,' emphasizing that Hamas would no longer possess power over Gaza's military or civilian realms.

The strikes coincide with a fragile ceasefire initiated the previous October, yet heavy casualties have mounted with more than 880 Palestinians reported dead since its enforcement. Israeli officials justify continued actions as measures against Hamas violations and threats, though Palestinian health sources highlight substantial civilian losses.
