Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has indicated to his cabinet colleagues a possible resignation, following a breakfast meeting at his home, report sources on Thursday. This development unfolds amid speculation of Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar becoming the next leader.

The meeting was marked by emotional scenes, captured in images released by the Chief Minister's Office, in which Siddaramaiah embraces Shivakumar, having an emotional exchange. Despite debate, Siddaramaiah has not formally requested a meeting with Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, who is currently unavailable due to personal travel.

The Congress high command had reportedly called for a leadership change, offering Siddaramaiah a central role with a Rajya Sabha seat. However, he has not confirmed acceptance of this position. The situation remains fluid as the party's legislative group has yet to make a final decision, and discussions continue with senior figures including Randeep Singh Surjewala, who has denied rumors of an imminent leadership meeting.

Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar have attended discussions in Delhi within the Congress hierarchy, involving pivotal figures such as Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, to deliberate over next steps for Karnataka's leadership.
