Harsh Deep Malhotra has been named the new president of the Delhi BJP, stepping into the position following Virendra Sachdeva's term completion. Known for his robust ties to the RSS, Malhotra is well-regarded within the party for his organisational prowess.
At the age of 62, Malhotra is the sole Union minister from Delhi in the current Modi Cabinet. National BJP President Nitin Nabin chose him for this role, recognizing his long-standing service and leadership within the party. The formal handover took place at the Delhi BJP office in the presence of top party figures such as Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Having started his political career with the RSS and the student wing ABVP, Malhotra joined the BJP in 1991. He advanced through various party ranks, gaining experience and influence, most notably as the head of organisational efforts in the Naveen Shahdara district. His tenure has included significant roles, such as the mayor of East Delhi and a general secretary position in the Delhi BJP.
In 2024, Malhotra won the East Delhi Lok Sabha seat, subsequently serving as Union Minister of State. His expertise extends beyond politics into social service, notably with the non-profit Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti, promoting organ donation. His scientific and legal education supports his methodical approach in political and civic matters.
