Kalyan Banerjee, a TMC member of parliament, reported suffering head injuries during an incident outside a Hooghly district police station. Banerjee stated he was attacked by BJP supporters while submitting a memorandum protesting TMC worker arrests after the Assembly elections.
The alleged assault follows a recent incident involving party leader Abhishek Banerjee, who faced hostility in Sonarpur. Tension heightened as protesters waved black flags and chanted against Banerjee at the Chanditala police station, where he claimed to be injured by an attacker.
He criticized police inaction and vowed that TMC would persist in resisting what he termed as "BJP-sponsored violence." The BJP refuted the accusations, suggesting local dissatisfaction with TMC was the actual cause. Security forces were deployed to prevent further unrest.
