The process of nominating candidates for a Rajya Sabha seat from Tamil Nadu is set to commence on Monday. The ruling TVK is anticipated to secure its first ever upper house position.
This seat became vacant after AIADMK's C Ve Shanmugam stepped down following his successful election from the Mailam Assembly. With TVK being the Assembly's largest party, they are in a strong position to win. However, speculation exists on whether the party will keep the position or allow an alliance partner, such as Congress, to fill it. This comes after Congress was TVK's ally when they needed support to form the government. The nomination window is from June 1 to June 8, and scrutiny will occur on June 9. Candidates can withdraw by June 11, with the election scheduled for June 18 and results expected the same evening.
