BJP Dominates Three Himachal Civic Bodies in Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has significantly expanded its influence in Himachal Pradesh, clinching victory in three out of four municipal corporation elections. Results unveiled on Sunday revealed wins for the BJP in Mandi, Dharamshala, and Solan, while the Congress party managed to retain control of Palampur.

The voting, which took place on May 17, involved contests for 63 seats. BJP came out on top with 37 seats, as opposed to Congress's 23, with Independents securing the remaining three. In areas such as Solan and Dharamshala, the BJP demonstrated strong voter support, marking a sharp political shift in local governance.

The election saw the BJP secure substantial leads: 12 seats in Mandi and 11 in Dharamshala. Congress, however, managed to win 11 of 15 wards in Palampur. High voter turnout was recorded, with Palampur leading at 68.97%, illustrating keen public engagement in these elections.

Reacting to the results, BJP state president Rajiv Bindal interpreted the outcome as a clear repudiation of the Congress-led state administration's policies. He described the election results as a referendum from the people, signaling a broader shift towards BJP's governance style.
