In Kerala's Alappuzha district, a dispute has surfaced within the United Democratic Front (UDF) as two of its MLAs clashed over a visit to the Thottappally Spillway. Kuttanad MLA Reji Cherian's unscheduled visit to the spillway, part of Ambalappuzha Assembly constituency, has sparked criticism from local MLA G Sudhakaran, who maintains Cherian failed to follow protocols for notifying the visit.

At a public event, Sudhakaran criticized Cherian's actions, suggesting they might violate assembly privileges. He referred to a business connection of Cherian's, hinting at potential conflicts of interest. Cherian defended his position, asserting his right to address issues in Kuttanad and claiming his actions aimed to assess the spillway's condition for his constituency's benefit. This exchange has created friction just weeks after the Congress-led UDF assumed office.
