A tragic fire swept through a Milwaukee apartment building early Sunday morning, leaving four dead and critically injuring four others. The fire erupted in a common area, quickly spreading to multiple floors of the 85-unit building.
The blaze, which displaced approximately 200 residents, started shortly before 8 am on Mother's Day. Firefighters arriving on the scene were faced with intense flames, prompting urgent rescue efforts, including rescuing residents through windows with platform fire trucks.
Chief Aaron Lipski reported the building, constructed in 1968, had no sprinkler system, as it predated related safety laws. Lipski is determined to uncover the fire's cause while questioning the lack of mandatory safety features in older buildings.
