Rescue teams in southern China's Guangdong province scrambled to evacuate residents and provide essential supplies after floodwaters overwhelmed several towns on Wednesday. The crisis affected around 30,000 people in Huaiji County following relentless rainfall, with widespread power and internet outages reported.
The Suijiang River spilled over its banks, transforming urban streets into waterways. Aerial footage depicted a landscape submerged in muddy waters, where high-rise apartments and trees seemed to float in a vast liquid expanse. Some areas saw waters engulf the first-floor levels and conceal vehicles beneath the surface.
The flooding followed heavy rains brought by tropical storm Wutip, which caused fatal landslides in Guangxi earlier. Emergency responders focused on aiding vulnerable groups, including evacuating critically ill patients from a hospital and ensuring the delivery of milk powder and water to families with infants and schools housing children and the elderly.
