Over 50,000 residents in Odisha's Balasore district were impacted by flash floods after heavy rains in neighboring Jharkhand led to a surge in the Subarnarekha River, according to official reports on Saturday.
An emergency response was launched as 17 gram panchayat areas in the Bhograi, Baliapal, Basta blocks, and part of Jaleswar Notified Area Council (NAC) were submerged. Rescue operations and preparations to evacuate affected residents to cyclone shelters were intensified by local officers.
District Collector Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas mandated that officials remain vigilant. Essential services including food distribution and healthcare were prioritized, while water levels were rigorously monitored. Despite receding water levels at Rajghat, the alert remains high; officials continue monitoring the situation closely.
