The Delhi government's initiative to revitalize the Najafgarh riverfront signals a major environmental and community development. Hiring a consultant, the Irrigation and Flood Control department plans to convert a 21-acre area into a vibrant recreational hub.
As directed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the project aims to rehabilitate the land, once part of the now-polluted Najafgarh drain. Facilities proposed include landscaped parks, walking paths, and children's play areas, among others.
Challenges such as desilting and addressing the drain's pollution to the Yamuna are significant, but officials remain optimistic. The consultant's upcoming report will shape the initiative's final scope, anticipating a revival of this historically important site.
