Pune Metro Rail Expansion Approved: A Strategic Boost for Urban Development

The Union Cabinet has given the nod to Phase 2 of the Pune Metro Rail Project, encompassing two elevated corridors that will stretch over 12.75 km, with an investment of Rs 3,626 crore. The approval came during a cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As extensions of the Vanaz–Ramwadi corridor, the new corridors will link Vanaz to Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi. The initiative aims to bolster public transportation in Pune and is anticipated to be completed within four years, ensuring vital connectivity for suburbs like Chandani Chowk, Bavdhan, and Wagholi.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the strategic importance of this expansion, highlighting its alignment with the Comprehensive Mobility Plan and its potential to support IT hubs, commercial zones, educational facilities, and residential areas. The new corridors are set to increase public transport usage and are critical for Pune's urban development.
