Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday unveiled an array of projects in Golaghat district, including a newly constructed stadium within the historic Golaghat Government Bezbaruah Higher Secondary School. Sarma acknowledged the school's pivotal role in education through the medium of the mother tongue, and its notable alumni who have gained recognition nationally and internationally.
The redevelopment of an old hostel into a stadium complex was made possible with financial aid from Numaligarh Refinery under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. Sarma noted the inclusion of a sports museum, which houses contributions from notable sports personalities from Assam, underscoring a commitment to nurturing sporting talent and preserving traditional sports.
In addition to sports facilities, Sarma laid the foundation for a drinking water supply project expected to benefit 55,000 residents of Golaghat town. Highlighting ongoing development, he referenced the establishment of infrastructural facilities such as a new engineering college, medical college, and improved road connectivity under the 'Asom Mala' programme. The indoor stadium by the Golaghat District Sports Association also marks significant urban development strides.
