In a significant contribution to recovery efforts, the National Service Scheme (NSS) units in Kerala have donated over Rs 4.5 crore to help with reconstruction in Mundakkai and Chooralmala, two hamlets severely affected by landslides in Wayanad.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) on Tuesday, these funds are allocated for the construction of houses within a township planned by the government for rehabilitation purposes.
The funds were raised through innovative programmes such as the waste paper challenge, biryani challenge, art exhibitions, food festivals, and Onam festivities organized by NSS units across the state. Additionally, the NSS has announced the commencement of a new phase of their initiative, slated to run for one month starting Tuesday.
