The Goa government has made significant progress in its affordable housing initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), constructing 250 out of a planned 254 homes for eligible recipients, according to officials on Thursday.

In total, Rs 3.4 crore has been allocated for the project, underscoring the government's commitment to providing accessible housing solutions. Despite facing higher construction costs than other states, due to regional factors, Goa aims to meet its target within the scheduled timeframe.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, shares financial responsibility with state governments, offering 60% central funding and 40% from the state. Beneficiaries, such as Mathura Vithal Desai and Rohini Rohidas Kuttikar, have already witnessed significant improvements in their living conditions thanks to the scheme.
