The Delhi government has appealed to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to reconsider the fuel ban on overage vehicles, due to significant technological hurdles. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that the move has incited public discontent.
The government is searching for alternatives to the age-based ban, proposing restrictions based on pollution emissions. Since July 1, the government's attempts to enforce the ban, aligned with a court order, have faced operational challenges.
Sirsa criticized technological inconsistencies, such as issues with ANPR cameras, and mentioned the potential for vehicles to get fuel from nearby regions without bans. The Smart Delhi initiative pushes for an integrated air pollution strategy across the NCR.
