The Union government has sanctioned Rs 20.55 crore to establish a state-of-the-art biotech incubation centre at the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. This initiative is part of the Biotechnology Park project led by the Chhattisgarh Biotechnology Promotion Society under the Department of Agriculture and Biotechnology.

The main goal of this centre is to encourage innovation and nurture a startup culture by leveraging bio-resources. Youth will receive training, technical assistance, and infrastructure support to launch biotechnology-based ventures. The facility will feature 23 modern laboratories with BS-4 level biosafety standards, as well as two central instrumentation and analytical testing labs.

The centre will support the operation of 17 micro and small industries and six larger ones. Additionally, 23 startup companies will have access to office spaces for three years. Startups in agricultural and pharma biotechnology will be prioritized, bridging research with industry and creating pathways for employment and entrepreneurship.
