Floodwaters continue to isolate approximately 35 villages in Odisha's Balasore district, despite a gradual receding of levels in major rivers, local officials have reported. Twenty villages under Baliapal block and 15 in Bhograi block are heavily impacted, with residents relying on country boats for transit amid inundated roads.
The relentless downpour, spurred by a prevailing low-pressure system, has exacerbated the conditions, resulting in two fatalities and submerging roughly 1,894 hectares of farmland, damaging crops and vegetables significantly in northern Balasore.
Odisha's Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida conducted an aerial survey, ordering immediate relief measures including food and essential supplies distribution. She emphasized ongoing efforts to relocate residents to safety while prioritizing disinfection of water bodies and urgent supply of clean water and medical aid in affected areas.
