In a tragic series of events, landslides and torrential rains have claimed at least four lives across the Indian states of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Affected areas saw severe disruption as infrastructure buckled under the intense weather conditions.
In Jammu & Kashmir, a landslide on the old track to the Vaishno Devi shrine resulted in the death of a 70-year-old pilgrim and injured nine others. Meanwhile, in Himachal Pradesh, a newlywed couple was killed when a boulder fell on their home in Chamba district, highlighting the widespread destruction.
Authorities have responded by closing schools and issuing alerts for continuing heavy rainfall in multiple regions, including Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. With the monsoon season deepening, the Indian Meteorological Department warns of potential increased rainfall and further disruptions.
