Tropical storm Wipha is set to hit Vietnam's northern coastline on Tuesday morning, with almost 350,000 soldiers prepared to assist as the country braces for up to 50 cm of rainfall. The storm could trigger significant flooding and mudslides according to the state weather agency.
At 06:00 a.m., Wipha was positioned 60 km from Haiphong City, with wind speeds reaching up to 102 kph, and advancing southwest at 15 kph. Once the storm impacts Hung Yen and Ninh Binh provinces, it is expected to weaken into a low-pressure area by Tuesday night.
No casualties have been reported yet, but transportation services face disruptions, with flights canceled and some port operations suspended. Vietnam faces frequent storms due to its South China Sea coastline, with previous storms causing fatalities and substantial damage.
