The state of Haryana is making significant strides in its battle against climate change with a newly revamped State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC). The plan prioritizes water budgeting, crop diversification, and natural farming, placing villages at its strategic center.
Addressing the urgency of the situation, Additional Chief Secretary of Environment, Forests, and Wildlife, Anand Mohan Sharan, highlighted the impact of climate change on Haryana's economy. With over half the state's population relying on agriculture and facing increasing water scarcity, he emphasized that resilience has become a necessity rather than a choice.
The new strategy encourages local gram panchayats to lead climate action, incorporating initiatives into their development plans and accessing necessary funding. By collaborating with organizations like GIZ and NABARD, Haryana aims to harness technical expertise and financial resources to drive its grassroots climate mission forward.
