Race Against Time: Rescue Efforts at Codelco’s El Teniente Mine
Codelco, a Chilean copper miner, is working to rescue five workers trapped in the El Teniente mine following a collapse caused by a strong tremor. They have cleared 20 meters of the underground tunnels so far. The cause of the collapse, which also claimed a worker's life, is under investigation.

In a dramatic rescue operation, Codelco, Chile's largest copper miner, is striving to reach five workers trapped underground following a Thursday evening collapse at its El Teniente mine.
The incident, provoked by a powerful tremor, tragically resulted in one fatality. As of now, rescue teams have managed to clear 20 out of the 90 meters required to access the workers' likely location, according to El Teniente's general manager, Andres Music.
Though relief teams are advancing steadily at a rate of 15 to 20 meters every 24 hours, the complex operation's timeline remains uncertain. Codelco is probing the cause of the collapse, examining both mining activities and natural tectonic movements.
