In a strategic move aligning with India's developmental goals, Tata Group's hospitality arm, Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), is expanding its presence in the North East. Managing Director and CEO Puneet Chhatwal highlighted that this initiative mirrors the company's past expansions in iconic Indian destinations such as Goa and Kerala.

Currently, IHCL boasts 15 hotels with 1,348 rooms in North East India and has plans to add six more with 634 rooms. The company is embarking on new projects in Assam, including upgrades and expansions of existing properties in Guwahati and Kaziranga, along with a landmark Taj Palace in Tripura's Agartala.

In collaboration with the Tripura government, IHCL aims to transform the 1917-built Pushpabanta Palace into a luxury Taj property. This endeavor fits into the broader strategy of both government and private sectors to enhance the tourism and hospitality profile of the North East region.
