Rivers Rage: Northern West Bengal's Inundation Crisis
Incessant rain has caused rivers in northern West Bengal, like the Teesta and Jaldhaka, to overflow, flooding regions and affecting road links to Sikkim. The IMD predicts more heavy rain. Landslides and high rainfall have disrupted transit, especially on National Highway 10, and led to flooding in Jalpaiguri.

Rivers in northern West Bengal, notably the Teesta and Jaldhaka, are swelling due to relentless rainfall causing flooding and disrupting connections to Sikkim and Kalimpong. The regional India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued heavy downpours.
An overnight deluge triggered a landslide at Tarkhola, considerably impacting traffic along National Highway 10, a crucial route linking Sikkim with Siliguri. Officials indicate smaller vehicles are rerouted, while heavy vehicle movement is halted.
The flood scenario intensified with a 'yellow warning' around Rivers Teesta and Jaldhaka, as monsoon-fed waters from Bhutan compound the situation, particularly in Jalpaiguri where the region saw the state's peak rainfall of 159mm in a day.
