Devastation struck the mountain village of Dharali as heavy rains and landslides triggered by a cloudburst wreaked havoc, claiming lives and leaving many missing. On Wednesday, a body was recovered and over 150 individuals were safely evacuated from the disaster zone. Rescue operations continue amidst relentless rain, posing significant challenges.
Key infrastructure, including arterial roads, has been severely disrupted, hampering access to the village. A joint rescue team comprising Army, ITBP, and SDRF personnel is on the ground, working tirelessly to locate missing individuals. Among the missing are 11 Army personnel and a 28-member tourist group from Kerala.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has communicated with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, assuring all necessary support from the central government. Over 100 personnel from various agencies are engaged in rescue operations, with more en route. The situation remains precarious as the weather continues to impede rescue efforts.
