Amidst heavy rains in the upper reaches of the Beas River, the Pong Dam has released over 23,000 cusecs of water, officials confirmed on Wednesday. This precautionary measure comes as the reservoir's inflow has surpassed 1.90 lakh cusecs, according to Chief Engineer Rakesh Gupta.

Discharging around 4,000 cusecs through spillway gates and 19,300 cusecs via powerhouse tunnels, the total controlled release aims to manage the rising water levels. The current reservoir level is 1,373 feet, positioned safely 17 feet below the danger mark.

Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain emphasized that such releases are routine during monsoon season, assuring citizens there is no cause for panic. The administration is closely coordinating with the Bhakra Beas Management Board and remains prepared for any unforeseen developments.
