In the wake of devastating flash floods in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district, rescue operations have gained significant momentum. On Thursday, 65 stranded individuals were successfully airlifted to Matli, according to officials.
The rescue teams are shifting focus to bring advanced equipment to the Himalayan village of Dharali, aiming to locate those trapped under the massive rubble. Roads blocked by landslides have stalled previous attempts, presenting a major challenge for rescuers.
The scale of the disaster remains uncertain, with locals suggesting hundreds may be buried under debris. While officials have not confirmed the number of missing, the National and State Disaster Response Forces, along with the Army and other agencies, are intensifying their efforts. Eleven army personnel and numerous pilgrims are among those unaccounted for.
