In a concerted effort to rescue stranded pilgrims from the disaster-stricken Dharali village, operations were ramped up on Friday morning, with 566 individuals safely airlifted, according to official reports.
Given the severe damage to the Gangotri National Highway and several motorable roads, helicopters have become the primary mode of rescue and supply transport. As of the fourth day of rescue operations, 840 people have been evacuated safely, although the whereabouts of at least 50 people remain unknown.
Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority revealed that 16 individuals are currently missing, including nine Army personnel. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is actively overseeing operations, advocating for collective efforts and resource mobilization to restore normalcy in the distressed region.
