Hurricane Erin, the first major storm of the 2025 Atlantic season, has intensified to a Category 4 hurricane. With sustained winds of 145 mph, it threatens the northern Leeward Islands and will impact the U.S. east coast. Erin is causing swells and heavy rainfall across affected areas.

Hurricane Erin, marking the first significant storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, has accelerated in strength to a formidable Category 4, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC).
The eye of the storm, located 120 miles northeast of Anguilla, is producing maximum sustained winds of 145 mph. The NHC has warned that the storm's swells will affect the northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico throughout the weekend.
As Erin continues its path, its influence is expected to reach the Bahamas, Bermuda, and the U.S. east coast early next week, with heavy rainfall forecasted for the northern parts of the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico through Sunday.
