Spain's valiant efforts to combat 20 major wildfires are being severely impeded by an unprecedented heatwave. The Spanish government has responded by deploying an additional 500 military emergency unit troops to bolster firefighting operations.
The situation is dire in Galicia, where multiple fires have converged into a massive blaze, resulting in the closure of highways and railways. This wildfire season is among the worst in two decades for Southern Europe, with both Spain and Portugal heavily affected.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has acknowledged the gravity of the situation, announcing military reinforcements. Despite the challenging conditions and extreme temperatures, Spanish authorities continue steadfast efforts to control the fires.
