Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced the formation of a committee comprising senior officials from the Central Water Commission and the governments of Haryana and Delhi, dedicated to cleaning the Yamuna river, drawing inspiration from the Ganga's restoration efforts.

The committee's responsibilities extend beyond just cleaning the river, addressing a range of issues pivotal to the Yamuna's health. In a meeting on inter-state water rejuvenation chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil, Saini noted the fast-paced development under Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's leadership and emphasized significant progress in sewage treatment and garbage removal.

Initiatives include accelerated sewage treatment, establishment of 44 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), and measures to reduce pollution levels. Saini highlighted the critical need for cross-state cooperation to achieve a cleaner Yamuna, with expert oversight on areas like the Najafgarh lake and industrial discharges.
