The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has introduced a new interactive e-learning programme designed to strengthen the preparedness of healthcare professionals worldwide for nuclear and radiological emergencies. The course, “Introduction to Medical Preparedness and Response to Radiation Emergencies,” is available online and free of charge, providing doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel with practical tools to act quickly and effectively in crisis situations.

The three-hour, self-paced course is divided into four interactive modules, each designed in line with the Systematic Approach to Training and principles of Adult Learning Theory. It incorporates updated material from the 2024 edition of the Generic Procedures for Medical Response during a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency and feedback gathered from IAEA member states.
