U.S. traffic deaths decreased by 8.2% in the first half of the year, marking the lowest fatality rates since 2020. The drop follows elevated deaths due to the 2020 pandemic. Congress passed a $1 trillion law to boost road safety. Despite progress, fatalities remain a public health concern.

U.S. traffic fatalities have fallen by 8.2% in the first half of the year, reaching the lowest mid-year figure since 2020, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The statistics revealed a significant decline from 18,680 deaths in the same period last year to 17,140.
Despite this improvement, experts emphasize the need for continued efforts as road deaths remain a contentious public health challenge.
