Tragedy Strikes: Man Killed in Elephant Encounter

A 50-year-old man lost his life in a tragic encounter with a wild elephant in the Gorilla Dand forest near Tanera village, Chhattisgarh, on Sunday. The man, identified as Dhan Singh Porte, was attacked by the tusker in the Katghora forest division.

Manish Singh, the forest range officer, informed that the elephant overpowered Porte with its trunk and fatally trampled him. A forest team later arrived at the location to recover the body, which has been sent for a post-mortem examination.

As a precautionary measure, authorities alert villagers to maintain vigilance as 57 elephants are reportedly roaming the Pasan forest range. Human-elephant conflicts persist as a crucial issue in the state, claiming more than 320 lives over the past five years.
