In Thane city, a 'chhajja,' or overhang, of a ground-floor flat in a 30-year-old building collapsed, stirring safety concerns among residents. The incident, which the authorities reported on Friday, occurred at the three-storey Swami Apartment in Lokmanya Nagar. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell, noted that the building falls under the category of dangerous structures. A civic staff assessment confirmed the collapsed section as structurally unsafe, prompting authorities to demolish the hazardous elements immediately.
Despite the collapse, no evacuation was deemed necessary. However, further action regarding the building has yet to be disclosed by officials, leaving its future uncertain.
