A significant fire erupted near the Mukkunnimala Air Force radar station on Saturday, destroying 4-5 acres of dry brush, according to fire and rescue officials.
The blaze started close to 11 am, with initial response from two fire tenders, and was declared contained around 5 pm. Evening showers aided in extinguishing the flames.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, notably as the area serves as an abandoned quarry site and waste dump, which exacerbated the firefighting challenges.
