As flames engulfed a room in a Shastri Nagar chawl on Friday morning, a woman present escaped unharmed, according to Yasin Tadvi, chief of the regional disaster management cell.
The fire, originating on the first floor, ravaged several household objects and electrical wiring. The intense heat even caused the collapse of iron sheets on the roof. Authorities confirmed that while human casualties were averted, the woman's pet cat could not be saved.
Swift action by firefighters and emergency services, including teams from the state-run power company, ensured the blaze was quickly extinguished. The incident highlights the importance of disaster readiness and community safety measures.
