Representatives from the Mars Impact Fund, the philanthropic division of Mars, Incorporated, have visited Humane World for Animals India's Animal Birth Control centre in Lucknow. The initiative is renowned for its effective and humane street dog management approach, focusing on dog sterilization and vaccination through community engagement.
The program has established Lucknow as a model city for managing street dog populations humanely. Local community volunteers are actively involved in monitoring and managing street dogs, promoting coexistence. More than 475 local resident groups participate, showcasing a strong shift towards shared responsibility in sustainable urban animal management.
With support from the Mars Impact Fund, over one lakh street dogs have been sterilized and vaccinated, ensuring more than 80% sterilization coverage in the city. Community involvement has been crucial, as emphasized by both the Mars Impact Fund and Humane World for Animals India representatives during the visit.
