The residents of Jammu plains are enduring extreme heat as a persistent heatwave grips the region, with temperatures soaring above normal levels. Relief-seeking residents flocked to water bodies and picnic spots as temperatures on Sunday reached unforgiving highs.
Jammu recorded a searing high of 39.4 degrees Celsius, surpassing the average by 3.7 degrees. Katra, a hub for pilgrims visiting the revered Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, followed with a high of 35.8 degrees Celsius, while Batote in Ramban district documented a more moderate 27.7 degrees high.
The intensity of the heatwave has largely overshadowed the negligible rainfall across the region, though Banihal town on the Jammu-Srinagar highway recorded a minor 3.0 mm of precipitation.
