Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a power grid project worth Rs 1,647 crore at Uchchabali in Keonjhar district, and said around 7 lakh people would benefit from it. The 420/220 KV grid substation will be set up in the mineral-rich Badbail area of Keonjhar. ''With infrastructure development and new industries coming up in the region, Keonjhar will be developed as the second Jamshedpur (in Jharkhand) of eastern India,'' Majhi said. He said nearly 7.17 lakh consumers of Keonjhar Sadar, Telkoi, Jhumpura, Joda and Badabil areas will benefit from this project. ''The identity of a developed society is uninterrupted electricity service. We are committed to making Keonjhar, which is rich in mineral resources, a golden Keonjhar,'' Majhi said, while addressing a gathering in his home district. The chief minister said upgrading the Badabil and Palasapanga grids is the state government's priority. Asserting that Odisha is on the path of digitalisation, Majhi said the new State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) at Mancheswar in Bhubaneswar will be the ''heart for power management'' in the state. In addition, 70 grids will be managed remotely through the STAMS (State Transmission Asset Management System) project, and faults will be resolved promptly, he said. Majhi said that there were 1 crore electricity consumers in the state, and 34 more grid substations will be built by 2036. Plans are afoot to set up 765 KV grids in Bhubaneswar, Jajpur, Jharsuguda and Gajapati, he added.
