State capital Lucknow on Wednesday witnessed 0.8 mm of rainfall, and the maximum temperature settled below the 40-degree Celsius mark at 39.3 degrees Celsius, the meteorological department said in a statement. According to the meteorological department rainfall was recorded at a number of places in the state, bringing respite from the heat. Gorakhpur received 19.2 mm of rainfall, followed by Prayagraj which got 11.2 mm of rainfall and Varanasi (9.00 mm). Rainfall was also recorded in Fursatganj in Amethi district (5.0 mm), Azamgarh (4.8 mm) and traces in Ballia, Churk (in Sonbhadra district), Sultanpur and Aligarh. Banda was the hottest place in UP at 45.8 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees above normal) followed by Prayagraj (43.4 degrees Celsius) and Orai (43.3 degrees Celsius). The forecast for Lucknow is partly cloudy sky with a few spells of rain and thundershowers. Maximum and minimum temperature will be around 34 and 24 degrees Celsius respectively. The meteorological department also said that thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds are very likely at isolated places in western Uttar Pradesh as well as eastern Uttar Pradesh.
