As parts of Kerala experience persistent heavy rains, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange alert' for six districts, emphasizing the seriousness of the weather conditions.
The districts under this alert include Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam. The warning is set for three hours starting from 4 pm, with forecasts predicting possible thunderstorms and winds reaching speeds up to 50 kmph.
Previously, the IMD had already anticipated rains sustained by lightning and winds from April 29 to May 3, underscoring the likelihood of heavy rainfall reaching between 11 cm and 20 cm in the affected areas.
