Thirst for Relief: Tankers Deliver Lifeline to Marathwada's Parched Villages

With temperatures soaring in Maharashtra's Marathwada region, around 92 villages across three districts are now increasingly dependent on tankers for their water needs, according to a recent report.
The Divisional Commissioner's office revealed that 156 tankers are currently engaged in supplying water to both villages and settlements in the districts of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Latur, and Hingoli. Notably, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, which includes the expansive Jayakwadi dam, sees the highest dependency with 71 villages relying on tanker deliveries.
In response to the crisis, the administration has commandeered private wells across seven districts, with a total of 268 wells now contributing to the water supply efforts. This drastic measure reflects the pressing need for sustainable water solutions in the region.
