Delhi Expands Air Quality Monitoring Network with 13 New Stations

Delhi is making strides in its environmental monitoring efforts with the planned introduction of 13 new Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) this year. This expansion is being spearheaded by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), which is overseeing the development of 10 stations expected to become operational by October.

With 47 existing CAAQMS, Delhi boasts the highest number in any Indian city, reflecting its commitment to comprehensive air quality monitoring. The move aligns with government initiatives aimed at ensuring that each 25 sq km area in the city is equipped with a station to gather accurate pollution data.

However, the initiative is facing challenges, including siting concerns for some stations, as highlighted in an audit report by the Public Accounts Committee. Despite these issues, the focus remains on maintaining the integrity and completeness of the air quality data gathered by these stations.
