The Delhi forest department is set to launch 'Vriksh Rath', or 'Tree Chariots', during the monsoon months to facilitate free sapling distribution among residents, an official announced Wednesday. These vehicles are a part of the comprehensive Green Action Plan for 2025-26, targeting the plantation of 70 lakh saplings city-wide.

According to officials, the Vriksh Rath initiative will boost community engagement by making saplings easily accessible, particularly to those unfamiliar with where to procure them. The distribution, beginning with a mega plantation drive's launch, is part of efforts to enhance Delhi's green cover significantly.

Thirteen mobile vans are planned for deployment across various localities, distributing a range of native and urban-suitable saplings. The initiative aligns with the aim to plant five lakh saplings, with an additional 20 lakh available for community distribution, reinforcing public involvement in Delhi's environmental enhancement.
