Jharkhand's government has taken a significant step forward in urban development with the launch of a new online portal dedicated to the regularisation of unauthorised residential buildings. Urban Development Minister Sudivya Kumar announced this initiative, which comes after the state cabinet approved the 'Jharkhand Regularisation of Unauthorisedly Constructed Building Rules, 2026' on April 15.
The new rules aim to incorporate select unauthorised constructions into the legal framework through specific conditions and penalties. Residents can now conveniently apply online to regularise their homes, although the intention is not to promote illegal constructions but to assist those who have already built without sanctioned plans. Kumar highlighted that the process has been simplified, with a provision for fee payment in three instalments to alleviate financial strain on applicants.
The Urban Development Department Principal Secretary Sunil Kumar noted that applications should be submitted within two months from the portal's activation date, and authorities are expected to decide on these applications within half a year. The scheme applies exclusively to residential buildings up to G+2 structures or on plots under 300 square feet, according to officials.
