Transformative Initiative: Africa India International Development Zone in Navi Mumbai
A new agreement between CIDCO and the Africa India Economic Foundation aims to establish the Africa India International Development Zone in Navi Mumbai. The initiative seeks to strengthen economic collaboration between India and Africa, positioning Maharashtra as a central hub in the Global South.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and the Africa India Economic Foundation signed a pivotal agreement to create the Africa India International Development Zone in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. Attended by Maharashtra's top political leaders, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the agreement is a strategic move to bolster India-Africa ties.
The planned Africa India Business Centre (AIBC), situated in Kharghar's International Corporate Park, aims to boost economic collaboration, currently valued at around USD 96 billion. AIEF will own a 74% stake in the Special Purpose Vehicle, while CIDCO retains 26%. This initiative is termed 'transformative' by CM Fadnavis for enhancing Maharashtra's global role.
Strategically located near key transport hubs, the zone is expected to create a vibrant ecosystem, boosting MSME growth and employment. With substantial infrastructure, including spaces for 54 African nations, a convention center, and cultural hubs, it promises to host major events, enhancing bilateral relations through soft diplomacy.
