Stellar Convergence: 44th ASI Meeting Illuminates Future of Astronomy

The 44th annual meeting of the Astronomical Society of India commenced on Saturday at IIT Guwahati, drawing over 600 astronomers, researchers, and students worldwide. The event, inaugurated by ASI President Devendra Ojha and IIT-G Director Devendra Jalihal, highlights the progressive legacy of ASI in advancing astronomy in India.

Ojha emphasized the exciting future for Indian astronomy with upcoming large telescopes and state-of-the-art infrastructure. Jalihal highlighted the event's role in inspiring young minds, especially in the Northeast, to engage with STEM fields. The conference aims to foster fresh ideas and collaborations, boasting over 140 scientific talks, 355 poster presentations, and three workshops.

The meeting saw prestigious awards given, including the ASI Zubin Kembhavi Award to the GROWTH-India Telescope team. Additionally, the event features significant outreach activities across the Northeast, targeting students and the general public with exhibitions and interactive sessions.
